Defunct ANC Lawmakers Decamp to Find New Political Home in Ford Kenya Party

Ford Kenya party has officially welcomed two prominent Members of County Assembly (MCAs) from Nandi County, signalling a new wave of political realignments following the dissolution of the Amani National Congress (ANC) party.

The party’s Secretary General, Hon. Dr. John Chikati, received Hon. Eliud Kirongo of Kapkangani ward a minority leader in the Nandi county assembly and Hon. Geoffrey Kevolwe of Kiptuya Ward, who is also the minority whip in the Nandi county assembly.

The defectors were welcomed on Wednesday morning at the party headquarters at Riverside Drive in Nairobi.

The two seasoned leaders, both serving their third term, were elected on an ANC ticket before the party was recently absorbed into the United Democratic Alliance (UDA).

The delegation of the defectors MCAs were led by Hon. Hassan Kagoni, the Kabwareng Ward MCA under the FK banner.

Speaking during the welcoming ceremony, Hon. Kagoni said the decision to join Ford Kenya followed extensive consultations with ANC grassroots leaders and voters who felt politically orphaned after the dissolution of the ANC.

“Today we are proud to receive new members who resonate with our vision, manifesto, and the values we uphold as a party. This is a great step for the growth of our party and for inclusive development,” said Dr Chikati.

Hon. Chikati reaffirmed that Ford Kenya remains a key member of the ruling Kenya Kwanza coalition but continues to strengthen its presence across the country.

He noted that the new MCAs bring significant experience and influence that will be instrumental in reinforcing the party’s grassroots network in Nandi County and beyond.

During the event, the SG issued lifetime membership certificates to the new members.

Hon. Kagoni, speaking on behalf of the party’s local leadership in Nandi County, welcomed the duo and celebrated their entry as a milestone.

“We are honoured to have the Minority Leader and Minority Whip of the Nandi County Assembly join our party. This is a clear indication that Ford Kenya is the party of choice for leaders keen on retaining or winning seats in the 2027 general election,” he stated.

Hon. Kirongo of Kapakaganyi Ward expressed his gratitude to the party’s leadership for the warm reception, pledging his loyalty to Ford Kenya.

He emphasised that his move followed deep engagement with his electorate, who advised that Ford Kenya was the right home following ANC’s merger with UDA.

He vowed to mobilise support for the party and work towards a successful re-election in 2027.

Hon. Kevolwe of Kiptuya Ward echoed similar sentiments, saying it had long been his dream to join Ford Kenya.

“This is a party rooted in strong leadership and grassroots presence. We are here to grow it even further,” he said.

Ford Kenya Deputy Party Leader Hon. Millicent Abudho also welcomed the new members and lauded Hon. Kagoni for facilitating their transition.

“This is the party of peace and progress. Our focus remains on uplifting the country through sound leadership,” she stated.

“We are committed to revamping our structures in all 47 counties and fielding candidates in every electoral position.” he said.

She further urged the youth, persons with disability, professional caucus and women’s leagues to intensify membership recruitment drives, adding that the party is not folding but rather revitalizing its heritage and preparing for a stronger showing in the next elections.

Dr. Chikati concluded by announcing the formation of a rebranding committee chaired by Kanduyi MP Hon. John Makali.

The committee will oversee a nationwide consultation process via a structured questionnaire to modernise the party’s image and attract more youth to its ranks.

“As we await the reconstitution of the IEBC, we are preparing to hit the ground running. Ford Kenya is ready,” Chikati affirmed.
