Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi has assured Kenyans that all house owners under the affordable housing project will be issued with sectional title deeds guaranteeing their full ownership of their houses.

Mudavadi said the government is fully committed to ensuring the affordable housing agenda transforms the lives of all Kenyans, as enshrined in the Constitution 2010. Article 43 (1) (b) of the Constitution of Kenya states that every person has the right to accessible and adequate housing.
Mudavadi said other than creating job opportunities and boosting the economy, the affordable housing project is a game changer that will ensure that Kenyans in the lower cadre of the economy also have the privilege of owning a house soon.
“It is the responsibility of the government of the day to ensure that every Kenyan is entitled to decent shelter. And since it is a constitutional right under the Bill of Rights,” said Mudavadi.
Mudavadi called out on those opposing the program, saying they are misinforming Kenyans who are the target of the initiative that will see many areas and lives transformed.
“When you see slum areas like Kibera and Mukuru Kwa Njenga being transformed as a result of the affordable housing project, then you wonder why some people are so blinded that they don’t want to reason and it becomes so unfortunate to hear someone opposing such great strides” regretted Mudavadi.
Mudavadi said those who have taken a new twist and are now misleading Kenyans that the ownership of the houses under this program will not be legitimized are spreading unnecessary fear and should be ignored.
He said plans are underway and proper measures and policies have been put in place to ensure every Kenyan who acquires a house unit under the program gets full ownership of the property.
“The Affordable Housing agenda is not just about putting up structures. It is about giving Kenyans a chance to own property and secure their future.
The government will be issuing sectional title deeds, and it is the government of Kenya that gives titles everywhere so nobody should mislead Kenyans that they will not fully own their units.” said Mudavadi.
“It is the government of Kenya that passed the law that brought about sectional titles guaranteeing legal ownership for homeowners under the Affordable Housing initiative.
For the first time, Kenyans benefiting from Affordable Housing will have legal documents proving ownership. These sectional titles will allow families to build generational wealth while ensuring security of tenure,” he added.
Mudavadi was speaking when he joined President William Ruto at the funeral service of the late Malava MP Malulu Injendi in Lugusi in Kakamega.
Mudavadi urged Malava and Kakamega County residents to take advantage of the program, noting that it will create employment opportunities for youth, empower contractors, and birth a new look at their housing architecture.
Mudavadi called on the people of Malava to support the government in ensuring that the development projects started by the late Malulu are completed in the near future.
He said Malulu had a vision to transform the lives of the people of Malava and assured the residents of the government’s full support towards ensuring the roads, water projects, power connectivity and other infrastructural projects are finished.
“Malulu was a leader with a vision. His commitment to development was unwavering, and we must honour him by ensuring that his unfinished projects do not stall. The President who was a good friend of Malulu will be at the forefront to ensure this takes place once the dust settles.” said Mudavadi.
“I mourn a leader I valued deeply, a man of principle, humble, forthright and focused. Malulu remained committed to the people’s agenda and that is why in Kakamega County, Malava Constituency leads with the highest number of students enrollment at the university,” said Mudavadi.
Mudavadi as he eulogized Malulu said the people of Malava have lost a great leader and he assured them that he is ready to continue walking with them on the journey of transforming Malava and the Western Kenya region as a whole.
“When I vied for the presidency in 2013 under UDF, the people of Malava gave me the highest number of votes compared to any other constituency in Kenya.
Thanks to Malulu’s leadership and the unwavering trust of the people of Malava,” he said.
The Late Malulu leaves behind a widow Betty Musonye Malulu and four sons.
