More Purge in Ruling Kenya Kwanza as Kiraitu Murungi’s MBUS Party Quits

The Devolution Empowerment Party of Kenya, popularly known as ‘MBUS’ wants a break from its relationship with the ruling Kenya Kwanza government, accusing it of neglecting the true cause of Kenyans.

According to the party leadership, the focus now turns to grassroots mobilisation aimed at reviving the party and gearing up for the Mbeere North parliamentary seat left vacant with the elevation of Geoffrey Ruku as CS Public Service.

Speaking at a press conference in Nairobi, the leadership, led by chairman Lenny Kivuti, who served as Embu senator, deputy leader and former Meru deputy governor Titus Ntuchiu and former Meru governor Kiraitu Murungi, who also served as party leader until he got a chairmanship job in government, say they have been sidelined in their dealings with Kenya Kwanza since inception. Thus, they would want first to strengthen the party and come back as an equal partner in any negotiations.

The party says it has never had any signed agreement with Kenya Kwanza, and that may be the reason for their sidelining, as it also accuses it of turning a blind eye to the plight of Kenyans, whom they say are suffering.

DEP or MBUS, however, says it has not locked out a future possibility of reuniting with President William Ruto’s party, but only if their space is guaranteed.

The party has also announced its intent to field a candidate for the upcoming Mbeere North by-election when IEBC announces a vacancy, with Muminji MCA and popular musician Newton Karish being the party’s favourite picks
