ODM Concludes Party Primary Elections

Following the ODM party primary elections on Wednesday in all 47 counties of Kenya, the chairperson of the national executive committee of ODM Emily Awita, has indicated that the exercise was carried out seamlessly at all levels of the voting stations.

ODM has slammed those who it termed as naysayers for spreading rumours that the party forced members not to vote by favouring specific candidates.

“Presiding officers at every polling unit took the members and candidates through the process and in most cases, members resolved to go the consensus way. in other places, members resolved to vote by show of hands. by and large, the exercise was successful save for a few polling units where cases of violence and disruption were reported,” said Awita.

ODM further denies the claims that there was a small number of those who turned out to vote.

According to the chairperson of the ODM national central committee Emily Awita, the ODM party’s primary elections on Wednesday in all 47 counties of Kenya proceeded well in more than 98 per cent of the polling stations, with counting ongoing.

“The party will launch investigations in areas where violence and disruption were witnessed and take necessary action on those involved regardless of their status in the party or society. the exercise was slowed down in some areas by the rains which continue to pound most parts of the country, but this did not deter our members from exercising their democratic right,” added Awita

However, it holds that voting was done by registered members only, by the laws and rules of the party which is, by way of agreement where the members and candidates sit and agree on the distribution of positions, or voting by raising hands – this it is if the parties fail to agree on the first example.
