Students blocked the Meru-Nairobi highway at various points to protest the lack of speed bumps and a pedestrian footbridge after 3 Comrades lost their lives after being hit by a car in Chuka, Ndagani.
Police engaged students in running battles by blocking their access to Chuka Town where most businesses are located
Earlier on, Chuka University students blocked KeNHA officials from marking a zebra crossing outside the university days after 3 fellow students were hit by a speeding vehicle forcing the students to force and stage a protest that put everything on a standstill along the busy highway
“Tomorrow morning watu wa Chuka! Kumekua na accidents mob, just yesterday 3 girls were hit and one died on the spot. The govt has been so reluctant in erecting bumps to contain speeding Miraa vehicles,” warned some of the citizens on social media.
