On Monday, Government Spokesperson Dr Isaac Mwaura, guns blazing in defence of President William Ruto’s Kenya Kwanza government, recent incidents, now says Tanzania has the sovereign authority to deny anyone entry into the country.
His sentiments came after People’s Liberation Party leader Martha Karua, former Chief Justice Willy Mutunga and four other activists were deported back to the country as they were to follow the hearings of opposition leader Tundu Lisu, who was facing treason charges.
Mwaura clarified that the transfer of the government seal from the office of the Attorney General to that of the Head of Public Service (HOPS) was conducted lawfully, stating that due process was followed as he reassured the public that the move does not strip the Attorney General of his constitutional role.

The government Spokesperson, Isaac Mwaura, has warned that the government will take firm action against anyone attempting to incite violence in the country, further stating that upholding law and order remains the primary responsibility of the government, and that no one should consider themselves above the law.
Mwaura insisted that Kenya’s unity must be safeguarded above personal or political interests.
During the hour-long press briefing, Mwaura discussed the following key topical issues as he defended the Kenya Kwanza Government.
- Arrests Not Politically Driven.
Hon.Mwaura clarified that recent arrests, including MP Peter Salasya’s, are based on individual conduct, not political affiliation. He dismissed claims of political persecution as propaganda.
- No One Is Above the Law.
The spokesperson addressed reports of a security presence at the residences of the former Deputy President, stating that the government will enforce the law regardless of a person’s political status or following.
- Kenya-Tanzania Relations Intact.
He also assured that diplomatic relations with Tanzania remain strong. He explained that Martha Karua’s deportation was a sovereign decision by Tanzania and was not politically motivated.
- Opposition Travel Not Restricted.
The spokesperson pointed out that other opposition leaders have travelled freely, proving there’s no government interference with political movement.
- Civil Society Urged to Be Objective.
He further expressed concern over some civil society groups spreading misinformation, particularly about the government spokesperson’s budget and the “Blood Parliament” documentary, urging responsibility and truthfulness.
- Support for Hustler Fund and Harambee Spirit.
Highlighted the success of the Hustler Fund, with over 24 million Kenyans accessing it and more than 7 million saving through it, linking it to Kenya’s tradition of community support through Harambee.
- Affordable Housing Rollout.
He announced that President Ruto will hand over 1,080 housing units on May 20 under the Mukuru Affordable Housing Project, part of a larger plan involving over 13,000 units and 160,000 jobs. Payments start at just KSh 3,494 monthly.
