Kithure Kindiki Assumes Office In A Historic Swearing-in as 3rd Deputy President Of Kenya At KICC, Nairobi

The stage is set for Professor Kithure Kindiki’s swearing-in as Kenya’s Deputy President on Friday, 1st November 2024, at 10:00 hours at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC). The ceremony, estimated to cost Ksh 200 million, marks a significant transition in Kenya’s political landscape.

“All preparations are complete for this historic occasion,” announced Head of Public Service Felix Koskei. “We expect over 5,000 guests, including heads of state from neighbouring countries and diplomatic corps members.”

Chief Justice Martha Koome, who will administer the oath of office, emphasised the constitutional significance of the ceremony. “This transition exemplifies our commitment to constitutional order and democratic principles,” she stated during a press briefing at the Supreme Court.

The Kenya Defence Forces have announced elaborate military honours planned for the ceremony. “The military will accord the incoming Deputy President full honours befitting his new status as the second in command,” confirmed Defence Forces Spokesperson Colonel Zipporah Kioko.

Traffic Commander Samuel Musembi detailed extensive road closures around KICC. “Parliament Road, City Hall Way, and Taifa Road will be closed from 6:00 hours. We urge motorists to use alternative routes provided through our traffic advisory.”

The event’s budget breakdown, released by the National Treasury, allocates Ksh 80 million for security arrangements, Ksh 50 million for venue preparation, and Ksh 70 million for logistics and protocol requirements.
