Lands Experts Assess Survey Progress at Rongai, Njoro Market Centres

Technical experts from Nakuru County’s Department of Lands recently visited Mercy Njeri Market Centre in Rongai Sub-county and Kihingo Market Centre in Njoro Sub-county to assess the progress of ongoing survey works. This visit is part of a broader initiative by the county to secure land tenure for residents, aiming to address technical concerns and ensure precision in the survey process.

The visit focused on addressing any discrepancies noted in the inception report submitted by the contractor. A primary objective was to confirm that designated control points align accurately with the Kenya Trigonometry Index Card, a national reference standard essential for surveying. By conducting this assessment, the technical team aims to preemptively identify and correct any issues that could otherwise delay or compromise the accuracy of the survey process.

“This visit is part of our commitment to accuracy in our surveying practices, ensuring that control points are verified and consistent. Addressing these potential issues now will help prevent delays and secure reliable tenure for the community,” stated a county lands official.

The tenure security project at Mercy Njeri and Kihingo Market Centres forms part of an initiative to secure tenure at eight market centres across Nakuru County, underscoring Governor Susan Kihika’s commitment to tackling land-related issues. Governor Kihika has made land reforms a priority in her administration, aiming to address historical land insecurity that has long affected many communities in the county.

“This initiative is about more than just property ownership; it’s about empowering communities to develop with confidence, knowing they have legal security over their land,” Governor Kihika has previously stated, expressing her administration’s focus on sustainable land reforms.

The survey assessments at these market centres will set the foundation for issuing title deeds, providing residents with documented security over their land and reducing the risk of future disputes. By verifying survey controls and ensuring accuracy from the start, Nakuru’s Department of Lands is working to safeguard the rights of residents and strengthen community stability.

In the coming weeks, similar evaluations are expected at the other six market centres, bringing Nakuru County closer to the goal of land security and tenure stability for its communities.
