A week after the killing, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in a joint investigation led by a team from DCI’s Homicide, CRIB, and Operations units announced the arrest of the prime suspect, identified as Victor Ouma Okoth who was apprehended in Dandora, Nairobi, after forensic evidence placed him at the crime scene following serious trailing conducted by DCI sleuths.
“The suspect, currently held at Muthaiga Police Station, was placed at the crime scene through forensic analysis,” read a statement posted on the DCI official X account.
Sleuths believe Ouma was among the abductors who are believed to have tortured and killed Ayieko, whose body showed signs of severe brutality, including his ears being cut off and eyes gouged out soon after he was last seen after attending a funeral in Gem on Friday night before leaving the funeral around 2150 Hours aboard his double-cabin. DCI view the arrest of the prime suspect as a significant breakthrough in solving the case even though the motive for the killing and dismembering of the Wells Fargo HR remains unclear.
He was headed to Kakamega for a family gathering the next day. When he didn’t arrive, his family grew weary that indeed something had happened to him en route and raised alarm.
Ayieko’s family remains devastated and searching for answers after the body was transferred from Siaya Funeral home where he had been booked after the retrieval to Nairobi’s Lee Funeral Home with detectives swinging in action to investigate and give answers to family and friends over the horrendous and heinous act.
“I have never seen such a cruel death since I was born, We are heartbroken by his death. He was a peaceful man with no known enemies, and we don’t understand why anyone would do this to him, the police have to act swiftly in investigations,” said the brother of the deceased.
