NAIROBI, Kenya – August 9, 2025 – CFK Africa hosted its annual Community Awards Celebration in Kibera on Saturday, recognising unsung heroes from Kenya’s informal settlements and celebrating a landmark sports victory.

Led by Board Chair and Co-founder Rye Barcott alongside Executive Director Jeffrey Okoro, the event spotlighted individuals and groups driving positive change in underserved areas such as Kibera, Mathare, and Kangemi.
Among the highlights was the recognition of Kibera Soccer Women FC, who recently won the FKF Women’s Cup Finals, marking a historic triumph for youth from the slum. The team’s players also serve as mentors in CFK Africa’s girls’ empowerment programs.
Other awards honoured grassroots leaders, including teenage mother Binti Rashid, who received the Social Justice Award for her advocacy through CFK’s Funzo Project, which supports teen mothers in returning to school.

Okoro praised the community-led nature of the awards, where nominations and voting were driven entirely by residents, saying, “Despite limited resources, our community shows extraordinary resilience, leadership, and commitment to creating change.”
