Deputy President Kithure Kindiki is set to be officially appointed as the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) deputy party leader on Monday, following his recent swearing-in as Deputy President.

Embu Governor Cecily Mbarire, the party’s chairperson, confirmed the imminent leadership transition during a press briefing on Friday.
“The UDA constitution stipulates that the President will be the party leader and the Deputy President will be the deputy party leader,” she stated.
The development comes after a protracted legal battle that previously prevented Kindiki’s appointment. The High Court recently lifted restrictions, paving the way for his confirmation.
UDA Secretary General Hassan Omar had earlier signalled the party’s intention to replace former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
“Gachagua must now accept the ground has shifted and move on,” Omar remarked, indicating a significant leadership restructuring.
Party Treasury official Japhet Nyakundi emphasised Kindiki’s alignment with the party’s principles.
“We already recognise Kindiki as our deputy president and deputy party leader, and we will officially install him soon,” he added.
Kindiki, who previously served as Interior Cabinet Secretary, replaces Gachagua following parliamentary approval of his nomination by President William Ruto.
A National Executive Committee meeting is scheduled for Monday to formalise Kindiki’s new role within the party hierarchy.
The transition represents a strategic realignment for the UDA, signalling potential shifts in the party’s internal dynamics and leadership strategy.
